Some smart person once said about Paris, “Never Tie Your Shoelaces in Paris”. Well if you don’t want your girlfriend to scream with jubilation, expecting a diamond rock to emerge from a flip box then, it’s best you don’t get on your knee to tie your shoelaces. Great advice, but Paris certainly offers much more than that. Paris is simply unbelievable. With its rich culture and surreal architecture, you go back in time simply marveling this amazing city.
Traveling to Paris, France for a summer vacation will cost you approximately INR 350000. This amount is inclusive of travel to and fro, sightseeing and accommodation for a single individual. The country of France is not just famous for the Eiffel Tower or for the river Seine or for the famous pavement bistros. There is something for everyone. Amusement parks, beautiful gardens, beaches, Cannes film festival etc. Now, the question that you might have is what can you do in Paris for a foreign trip of 3 days? What are the places that you can visit in Paris? Etc.
3 Days in Paris
If you are boarding a flight from Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore, then the destination will probably be the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. From the airport, it would be great if you get an accommodation closer to the capital city compared to within the city. The prices do soar when you get closer to the Eiffel Tower vicinity. The Peninsula Hotel and Hotel Icone are two great hotels we can recommend. Hotel Icone is especially close to the Louvre and Notre Dame. So, if that’s what you want then go for Icone.
If you are outside the city, then gain access to the Paris metro. You can easy to move around Paris and other French cities through the train. Get a Paris Pass made. This will allow you access to Paris’ attractions and museums. For a 3 day trip, you need to save as much time as possible. The city of Paris is quite large so walking to various monuments is not what we recommend. This is the right time to visit France anyway, with flowers blooming everywhere.
Day#1 in France
We won’t get into the times of waking up, where you should catch your breakfast or what time you need to embark on your tour around Paris. It’s your holiday, it’s your loan amount money, and you spend it the way you want and on what you want. The first day’s attraction to visit will obviously be the Eiffel Tower. That could be the main reason why you are in France in the first place.
The mornings are best to go see the iconic tower. There are less rush and chances to get the best views of France. At night, the tower is lit, and what a sight it is. The crowded lanes have to be avoided of course. There will be wine and pastry sellers around the tower, so it would be a great idea to buy you some and soak into the aura of the Eiffel. The view from the Eiffel is spectacular and lets you grasp the city’s best, 360 degrees. The prices for the tower range from Euros 7-12.
Next up should be Arc de Triomphe. It is a mesmerizing arc that is located at the center of the street. From the same street, you can also move over to the Avenue des Champs-Elysees – Another iconic French heritage street. To get to the Arc, you need to go through an underground passage before climbing up the 280 odd steps. Here again, you get a great view of Paris.
Once done with the Arc, head over to a popular tourist spot called the Grand Palais (Big Palace). It is a lovely structure that depicts all things rich. Just close to it is the Petit Palais (Small Palace). They are both fantastic testament to the rich French architecture and building. The Grand Palais is worth a look, thanks to its exhibition hall and museum.
Both palace visits will leave you hungry. Grab some grub at the Champs-Elysees street. Adorned with Paris’ pavement bistros and cafes, you can indulge in baguettes, truffles and yummy croissants. Walking on, you can then step on to the famous Pont Alexandre III Bridge based over the river Seine. Just close to the bridge are three famous museums of Paris, Musee d’Orsay, Musee de Rodin and Musee de l’Orangerie. Orsay is the one with an old train station and some wonderful art based on the period between 1850 and 1950. For around Euros 5, you can get a guided tour around the museum. Napoleon’s tomb is located at the Musee de l’Armee Invalides. The museum is known for its collection on war and military.
Day#2 in France
Start your second day with a trip to Notre Dame – One of the most iconic churches in the world. The church is surrounded by restaurants and coffee shops. Admiring the church will take time. It’s really worth it. Next, visit the Au Vieux Paris. It is a scenery induced spot complete with a spring.
Go see the Sainte-Chappelle, a Gothic styled chapel with its stunning stained glass structure. From here, walk southwards of towards Sorbonne. This area houses the Latin side of Paris and populated by student life. Keep on moving till you reach the Pantheon. It is a burial site for famous Frenchmen such as Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Victor Hugo.
From here, walk to the Luxemburg Gardens. It is a great place to relax after all the walking. The church that featured in Da Vinci Code is the Eglise Saint-Sulpice. Complete the second day by seeing one of the best museums in the world – The Louvre. There will be an obvious queue, so be prepared for that.
Cap off the second day by visiting Monmarte. You can opt for a walking tour around it which will help you cover some old Paris neighborhoods. Start with the Moulin Rouge, then Le Mur Des Je T’Aime. Here you can find ‘I LOVE YOU’ written in close to 300 different languages.
Finish up Monmarte by visiting Sacre Couer. The church’ paintings and architecture will leave you spellbound. The domes of the church are the highest in Paris. After that, grab some lunch at the Rue de Martyrs. Spend the afternoon shopping at the Galeries Lafayette. You can shop for accessories, shoes, and clothing.
Day#3 in France
Spend the final day by heading over to Versailles. The castle here is considered among the top 25 castles in the world. Versailles hosts the Marie Antoinette Estate, gardens and more palaces. Another attraction to visit here is the Hall of Mirrors. The gardens here are trimmed to perfection with fountains illuminated during the night. End your French sojourn by visiting the Tuileries Garden. Some last minute shopping can be done at Rue de Rivoli. The street is filled with restaurants, cafes and shops.
